Holy crap, what is the matter w/ me?! I usually post all my concert blogs here from my Myspace but i keep forgetting. This one is dedicated, once again, to AFI.

Well, March 4th was the kickass AFI concert!

Basically, my last blog on the AFI concert in San Diego was very detailed and proved my emmense love i have for the band. They are truly geniuses and write some of the best material i've ever heard. And, of course, are absolutely wonderful performers. So, for this blog, i'll just give some highlights (and...some disappointments ^^;;--which has nothing to do w/ AFI!). Here goes:

Highlights:
-Well, uh, it was AFI! That's a freakin highlight in itself!
-The opening bands were pretty good, though not the best. The first band, Viva Hate, had a guy playing the bass cello which i love when it comes to punk bands. So awesome. The Living End is like that, and they were great (when we saw them in San Diego). They also played their version of a country song in honor of Buck Owens, Bakersfield's main celebrity. It was a country song i actually liked. The second band was called Deadboy and the Elephantmen (yeah, don't ask; i don't get it either). They were good. Oddly, when the singer started to sing, he sounded like Neil Diamond to me. Don't know why, but he did. Random.
-AFI performed some of my favorites: This Time Imperfect (my favorite song of all time), God Called In Sick Today, The Missing Frame, The Leaving Song, Kill Caustic, Love Like Winter, etc. etc. Ok, so i love all their songs, ha ha ^^;; Oh, and they also performed a cover of Blur's "Song 2" which was a lot of fun to rock out to =D They didn't perform "Days of the Phoenix" or "Bleed Black" which i would have also liked to hear, but hey, i'm not going to complain! I was happy w/ the song choices!

-Davey Havok is just...gorgeous. I don't know what it is, but that man is very charismatic and he is an amazing performer. Great voice, a lot of talent, everything. He's just wonderful. Puts you in a...trance really....ok, i'm back =P

-I got to sit w/ my mom and brother. My ticket was for another seat two sections away, but there was luckily a seat open next to Jeremy, so i just sat w/ them. True, their seats were further away from the stage and mine was right next to it (and second row, to boot), but i wouldn't have enjoyed the concert sitting by myself. At least not as much as being w/ my family. So that was good. Now that we've learned our lesson w/ the whole seating debacle, we'll get better seats next time =)

-My sister and Mr. B didn't get mauled on the floor! Yay! Praise Jesus! ^_^
-Davey headwalked during "God Called In Sick Today" and i LOVE when he does that. I would have loved to have been there right under him while he was out in the crowd. He didn't stay out there as long as he did in SD, but it's always a treat and really adds to the awesomeness of the song/atmosphere. He's so great. Did i already mention how wonderful he is? =P
-Mr. B and Jeremy cracked me up at the Denny's (probably b/c i was high or something)! They're so great and i love them!

Disappointments/Rants:
-We purchased tickets online w/ an exclusive presale. We figured that, by purchasing our tickets online, we would for sure get our tickets (just in case it sold out) and would also get kickass seats. When my sis went online, she wasn't given a choice for any specific seat section, and the info just said that it was general admission. I don't care for GA AT ALL, can't stand GA, but you gotta do what you gotta do. So, my sis bought the tickets and we were set. We got to the concert last night....and saw two signs. One said that the bowl seating was to enter through the main doors and the other said that the GA/Floor was to enter through the side doors. What?! GA/FLOOR?! Yeah, we found out that our tickets were FLOOR seats...er, area. Look. I've been to a lot of concerts and the floor can sometimes be a cool experience. But i'd rather be able to see the performers clearly (w/o having to look around some tall guy) and w/o having to be pushed around/mauled/touched/violated/smell BO/involuntarily thrown into mosh pits/kicked in the head by a crowdsurfer/etc. This is why i didn't want as great a concert as AFI to be seen on the floor (though Havok headwalking into the crowd---yeah, i'd like to be right there in front of him, but i digress). So, Barry (my bro-in-law) and i went on a search to trade tickets w/ someone from the seat area for 3 of our floor tickets (my mom didn't want to stand but she wanted to go to the concert, and my bro and i didn't want to stand either). It seemed everyone bought their seat tickets b/c they, too, didn't want to stand. We eventually found someone who wanted to be w/ their friends and therefore traded w/ us, so we were set, though separated from the rest of our group who decided to just stay on the floor. Long story short? RABOBANK: YOU GUYS SUCK! I WILL NO LONGER BUY PRESALE TICKETS FROM YOU! AND YOU WON'T LET ME TRADE IN MY ONLINE TICKET FOR A REGULAR SEATING TICKET?! A TICKET IS A TICKET! OH, AND...YOU SUCK! THERE!
-Deadboy and the Elephantmen were a good band, but for some reason they just kept singing and singing and singing.... I kept thinking, When will this band end?! At that point i just really wanted to see AFI, and this band was an obstacle to that. Bah! But they weren't bad.
-I wasn't chosen for the Despair Faction Meet and Greet. Sigh. I mean, there's always a next time. If i go to another AFI concert (and you know i will!), then i'll try again then. I'll always be a DF member anyway. I just really wanted to meet them...wah wah wahhhhh.
-I have been to so many concerts and have smelled all the drugs i need to last me a lifetime, but this time, it just pissed me off. People were lighting up all around me and it was giving me such a headache, and really ruining the experience for me. Listen, feel free to smoke outside, i don't care, but during the concert? Just...don't. It's horrible. By the end of the night i had a complete contact high (at least that's what Jenna told me) and was very ill. It really ruined what should have ended as a great night. I completely crashed at Denny's. It sucked.

Anyway, here's the setlist from the show in the order that they were performed (for my really bad memory ^^;;):
Prelude 12/21
Girls Not Grey
Kill Caustic
The Leaving Song Pt.2
Summer Shudder
The Boy Who Destroyed the World
Silver and Cold
Dancing Through Sunday
The Missing Frame
Midnight Sun
This Time Imperfect
Death of Seasons
The Leaving Song
Song 2 (Blur cover)
Love Like Winter
God Called in Sick Today
Miss Murder

Ok. That's about it for my concert experience. Overall, AFI is an amazing band and i WILL see them again in concert. And there will be less disappointments and barriers in my way next time, mark my words!

As a final note (to pimp them out a little bit): go listen to their music at their official page.
